Just when you think you're finally getting into a predictable schedule and you can begin to differentiate between night and day again, your baby likes to mix things up by throwing a party until 3:30am! I swear, every time we skip Gretchen's bedtime bath, all hell breaks loose.
Anyways, since my little blogging hiatus - which I attribute to endless pumping sessions (you can read my breastfeeding story here) - there have been many new things going on in the Pehrson household. Let me update you...
Daily Smiles From The Beast
I cannot get enough of little Greta's smiles! She is most smiley in the mornings (particularly right when we put her down for a nap.) It is also apparent that she now knows who her mommy and daddy are. Sometimes Dave will take her while I do something else and when I come back and start talking to her she will look at me and give me the biggest smiles.
Working Out
Unfortunately, I am not one of those women who lose all there baby weight in the first three weeks from just breastfeeding. Gretchen is almost 2 months old and I have only lost 13 pounds since I gave birth to her (almost 8 of which was her body weight and probably another 2-3 from placenta and blood.) I gained 33 pounds during my pregnancy and I am anxious to lose it. Dave and I started T25 which is great because it is short and we can manage to fit it into our busy days. I know it took me nearly 10 months to gain that much weight, but I am anxious to lose it and have been very disciplined...it is just taking forever. What is particularly challenging is making sure that I eat enough to keep up my milk supply.
Dave's Baseball League
Though he has yet to play a game, Dave has joined a baseball league in our community. There are only a few games left in the summer but we are excited to go watch him! Funny side story - Dave and I were out fishing one day last summer and I was trying to open a bag of sunflower seeds. I was having difficulty so he took it from me and I asked him, "Are you sure you know how to do it?" Which he promptly snapped back at me, "I played baseball for 9 years, Tasha...I know how to open a bag of sunflower seeds." He was so defensive about it I just started cracking up. Every time we eat sunflower seeds now, I like to tease him about that.
House Updates
Finally getting back into making our house a home. Starting with the living room! Can you believe that there is only one overhead light in our living room? It is so dark and with fall rapidly approaching I wanted to lighten things up. On a whim last weekend, we painted the walls a cream color. We also got some bookcases from Ikea that we are turning into DIY built in storage and a coffee table from Ikea that we are sprucing up with some wood planks. We got all white furniture and a few lamps and looks like a brand new room with all of the light we get now. Picture updates coming soon...we still have a little ways to go before we are finished.
No Surgery!
I don't know if I mentioned this in Gretchen's birth story (which you can read here), but I got a pretty bad 2nd degree tear during the whole birthing process. At my 6 week appointment they told me that it healed, but I had a fair amount of granular scar tissue. So I waited 2 more weeks to give it some more time to heal and if I still had that amount when I went back I would have to get surgery to have it removed. Luckily it wasn't that bad when I went back in so instead of surgery they used silver nitrate to freeze the remaining scar tissue off. All better now! I think my pelvis might still be a little bruised though because sometime when I sit in a certain way I feel sore.
Anyways, that's all for now. Gretchen will be 2 months old tomorrow so an update on her coming soon!
I'm not sure if you've read this before, but: "You’ve probably heard the delicious fact that breastfeeding uses up the fat stores you laid down in pregnancy. The greatest weight loss is seen in the three to six month period." http://www.thealphaparent.com/2011/12/timeline-of-breastfed-baby.html
ReplyDeleteI have not seen that before...that gives me some hope :) Thanks Laura!
