Due Date

I can’t believe I am already 40 weeks pregnant. No...I can’t believe I have almost been pregnant for an entire year! I am actually in such disbelief right now that I am trying to decide if I actually just grew a human from scratch or if I just got extremely fat over the past nine months. If it weren’t for the extra set of legs poking out of my side, I would probably have to say fat.

My midwife said that average first time moms have their babies 8 days late so not to expect a baby until mid-June. She told me this a while ago, but I guess I just hoped I wouldn’t see today without a baby in my arms.

Anyways, I found some funny memes that explain pretty accurately how I am feeling today.  Enjoy!

The Golden Ticket To Parenting

I had such a wonderful relaxing weekend. I started off by getting a massage after work on Friday and then Saturday I went and got a mani/pedi. I figured I should take the last weekend (hopefully) I had babyless and get pampered a little.

Saturday was such a beautiful day and I had to go out to shoot some photos for my final photography project. I decided to head down to the marina to take pictures. I snuck onto the docs with some people who were going to their boat and spent about an hour taking pictures of ducks and boats and people. Then a man stopped me and asked me if I was getting some good shots. I turned around to respond and when he saw I was enormously pregnant his eyes lit up and he said I am going to give you the golden ticket to parenting.

He starts out by telling me that his children are in college, but when they were much younger (the youngest around 6 months) a man stopped him and talked his ear off for about 20 minutes and gave him the golden ticket to parenting and he was paying it forward to me. I guess that was my indication that I was about to get my ear talked off for 20 minutes.

Mainly what he told me was that when my babies are just learning to stand and walk that I should get a crap load of ping pong balls and throw them at them as fast as I can – one right after the other. At first I was a little shocked but then he explained to me that it is what he likes to call “push-ups for the eyes”. He said that it will start training them at a very young age to track fast moving objects and it will help them later in life. He told me that his son is an amazing baseball player and his daughter has set 6 swimming records at Gonzaga and he attributes their success to the ping pong balls.

Then he got on his boat in search of a baseball which he gave to me. He said he always keeps a baseball with him to remind him of this. He then told me that once I have realized that this is the number one best thing I could do as a parent to pay it forward.

Yes, he seemed a little cray cray, but I put the baseball in baby girl’s nursery as a reminder to chuck ping pong balls at her in about a year – just not as aggressively as this man told me.

38 Week Bumpdate

How far along: 38 weeks and 6 days

Gender: It’s a she dragon (giving me heartburn daily!)

Weight Gain: +32 pounds

Maternity Clothes: Yes, but I have a storage box in my room in hopes that I can start slowly putting them away soon.

Stretch Marks: More and more every day. They are all below my belly button though (with the exception of the freaky one I have where my belly button used to be pierced…)

Belly button in our out: Still an inny. It has no chance of popping out. I think I said this before:  I have an abnormally deep belly button.

Sleep: Going to sleep is hard because she is always in a very uncomfortable position at that time of night and I can’t get comfortable. By the time Dave gets up to go to work, I have gone to the bathroom 3-4 times and she has snuggled into a comfortable position so the last hour or two of sleep is good.

Best moment of the week: Officially unpacked! Just a few minor organization projects left (like our closet and baby’s closet for the 7th time!) Also, my mom, stepdad, brother, sis-in-law, and grandparents came over and helped us put together baby things things and make 40 freezer meals.

Miss Anything: I have never been one to sleep on my belly, but lately I have been having the urge to – probably because I can’t. I do miss being able to run and belly flop onto the bed after a nice hot shower though.

Movement: She has only had the hiccups a few times in the past week and her movement has slowed down, but when she is moving I can definitely feel how strong she is. I wouldn’t be surprised if she could leg press more than me in her first week of life. She is also growing into a giant so her movement isn’t as cute as it used to be.

Cravings: PB and nanner shakes! Davey makes them for us all the time. They really get her moving…she may be an addict.

Symptoms: Just the never ending heartburn. I hate taking medicine but have graduated myself from tums to the good stuff which works just okay.

Looking forward to: Seeing what this whole labor thing is about and if I will be able to do it.

GBS Positive

When my midwife told me today that I tested positive for Group B Strep I wasn’t initially concerned. She said there is nothing I did to contract it, that it is harmless to adults, and that 25% of women have it (and it tends to be more common in the summer). However, if the baby contracts it through delivery it is bad – baby could get pneumonia or meningitis and be very very sick. She said this can be avoided by giving me antibiotics while I am in labor every 4 hours at least twice before I deliver. This will decrease the chance of baby getting it from 1 in 200 to 1 in 4000. So I wasn’t really worried.

Of course, what do I do next? Google it. I have completely freaked myself out. First of all, what if I have a fast labor and there isn’t time to give me the antibiotics? I also read several women on different discussion boards say that they got the antibiotics and it didn’t work and their babies contracted it and got pneumonia, or were in the NICU for weeks, or the very worst – died an hour after birth or were stillborn. I know I am going to be so paranoid after I have her! I wonder if there are any tests they can do after birth to see if she has it. If not I can see myself already constantly checking her temperature and sleep not being an option because I will need watch her 24 hours a day. Has anyone else had to deal with this before? What was your experience?

On a much brighter note – everything else during my checkup was perfect. My blood pressure was good, baby’s heart rate is good, and she is measuring right on track at 38 weeks and is estimated to be around 7 pounds. I am 1 centimeter dilated, 50% effaced, my cervix is already completely forward, and baby’s head is moving down (she is at a -2). It was also confirmed that I probably do have a bruise (which I suspected) in the spot where she ALWAYS kicks me. Whenever I press on that spot, I can feel her foot and it is really sore…my midwife said she probably likes it even more now because it is warmer and the texture there is different.

37 Week Bumpdate

How far along: 37 weeks and 4 days

Gender: It’s a GIRL!

Weight Gain: +30 pounds

Maternity Clothes: Who knew that my maternity shirts could turn into belly shirts? Good thing my pants have high elastic bands because I refuse to buy anymore maternity clothes.

Stretch Marks: Yes I do. And I am learning to love them and live with them. Way cooler and more meaningful than any tattoo I could ever get.

Belly button in our out: Still an inny. I am pretty sure it will not pop out permanently.

Sleep: What is sleep? Oh that’s right…sleep is what makes my back hurt and every time I do sleep I have to pee.

Best moment of the week: Getting more things finished around the house and finally finishing all of my nursery projects. Now all I need to do is organize baby girl’s room.

Miss Anything: Don’t get me wrong, I love my baby bump, but I really miss getting out of bed and not feeling like I have a bowling ball drop inside of me and weigh down my stomach with no support.

Movement: Oh yes and she has definitely dropped so I am feeling her hiccups in my butt now! She also kicked my arm the other day when I was resting it on her and I could legitimately feel (and see) her foot! Crazy! She apparently can’t wait to get daddy’s famous nightly foot rubs.

Cravings: Crushed ice. I wish there was a Sonic close to us so I could buy some bags of nice ice. Anyone know where else around here has that kind of ice?

Symptoms: …the nausea is coming back! RAWR!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looking forward to: I never thought I would say this, but I am actually looking forward to pushing this fire-breathing dragon angel child out of me.

36 and 6

36 Weeks Pregnancy Chalkboard

How far along: 36 weeks and 6 days.

Gender: Pink!!!!

Maternity Clothes: I’m loving maternity dresses! On the bright side they are easy to put on and are loose. On the not so bright side, my belly has been sticking to my thighs when I sit down because it’s so hot!

Stretch Marks: Yes and I am over them. I don’t care…stretch marks happen and I can live with them. In fact, I am so comfortable with them I am contemplating wearing belly shirts for the remainder of my pregnancy if it continues to be as hot as it has been this past week.

Belly button in our out: In, but we can see the bottom when I am standing up now.

Sleep: I have my good nights and bad nights. There have been a few times where I have had to wake up Dave so he could help me out of bed to go to the bathroom.

Best moment of the week: Getting presents in the mail! I ordered some super cute baby headbands on Etsy…so cute they make me want to cry (see “Symptoms” below…)

Miss Anything: I miss my energy and being able to do things for myself. I have really had to rely on David to help me with everything from cleaning the house to changing me into my pajamas at the end of a long day. I am so blessed to have an amazing husband who doesn’t see these things as a burden. It also reassures me that he is going to be the best daddy in the world!

Movement: I waddle and baby has some spastic kicks. At first I was concerned about her kicking me so many times in a row but the midwife said that is normal. Any movement is good movement. She is also still getting the hiccups daily.

Cravings: Finally getting the ice cream craving. I was surprised that I lost my appetite for ice cream for the first 8 months, but now I want need ice cream nightly.

Symptoms: Excessive crying. I saw a cute baby girl the other day and started crying because her chubby little feet were soooo adorable.

Oh, and I can’t forget the heartburn. I had it so bad last Thursday night that I started throwing up…and throwing up with a baby on your bladder is no good my friends. Let’s just say I may or may not have peed a little on the floor…

Looking forward to: D-Day! I am so excited to hold baby girl in my arms!

Baby Showers {No It Is Not Raining Babies!}

My husband told me a few months ago that he used to think bridal and baby showers were a mysterious thing since only women went to them. He told me he used to think that the person they were for would actually get showered in a very ritualistic way…well I am glad that is not the case, but isn’t he so cute for thinking that.

Having a baby a little over nine months after getting married, I must say I am a little showered out. I feel so blessed to have so many people in my life that love me enough to want to celebrate these huge milestones. I feel like I have had more bridal/baby showers in the past year than actual showers since I have been pregnant though…just kidding…kind of… Well, I can’t wait to return the favor for my family and friends when they get married or have babies and make them feel as special as I have this past year.

David’s mom and sister threw my first shower. Hot flashes aside, they did a wonderful job and I had so much fun!

Getting practice for the next baby while holding my niece and being pregnant!

I love baby shower games!  Here are some babies fashioned out of Play-Doh (the Top 3).  I know some seriously talented people.

Obsessed with these tiny sunglasses!

My mom and sister-in-law threw another shower for me. Like I said, I love shower games and my mom really nailed it!

One of my favorite/least favorite games was where everyone took a photo of me and a photo of Dave and put them together to see what our baby would look like.

The results...frightening.

We also had to guess which chocolate bars were melted in diapers.  My Aunt Kim looks like a real pro doesn't she?

A beautiful blanket made by my Grandma.

35 Weeks

How far along: 35 Weeks and 4 days. Getting close!

Gender: Girl. Weight Gain: 29 pounds. Getting excited to start a diet soon.

Maternity Clothes: Exclusively…unless I am lounging at home, which in that case I wear David’s clothes.

Stretch Marks: Yes, but no new ones.

Belly button in our out: Inny for life! I am glad that I have gotten the opportunity to see the bottom though.

Sleep: I had the worst night of sleep ever on Friday night but the best night of sleep ever last night. So I would say overall my sleep is okay except I hate waking up and having to struggle to get out of bed to go to the bathroom.

Best moment of the week: Going on a date with Dave to the Bistro (my favorite restaurant). Also, being reassured – for the millionth time – that I have the best husband in the world.

Need I say more?

I should also follow this up with the worst moment of the week which was realizing that David does a better job painting my toenails than I do. The whole time he was painting them he kept saying “Someone call Jimmy at Pretty Nails – looks like Davey P. found a new profession”…I love him so much.

Miss Anything: My energy. I get so tired after short/non strenuous activities. I have made new best friends with Sofie our couch.

Movement: Lots and lots of stretching. She loves doing her yoga while I am in the bathtub and I love watching and feeling every time she moves. Now I can see her legs poke out on one side of my belly and her arms on the other. She also still gets the hiccups daily.

Cravings: Chicken pot pie. Queasy or sick: Not really, but yesterday I learned that I still cannot brush my teeth right after I eat because it makes me gag and throw up…

Looking forward to: The nursery being finished!  And I also plan on organizing the rest of the house this week. I can’t wait until I get everything done and then I can relax until baby gets here.

Why I Transferred To A Midwife At 35 Weeks

After my blog post on Wednesday regarding my birth plan, I had a dentist appointment and the hygienist was telling me about her natural birth at the Cascade Birth Center in Everett.  She gave me their contact information and recommended that I contact them. I decided to call first to see if transferring at 35 weeks is even an option and next to schedule a consultation appointment. I am not going to lie, my consultation appointment was kind of scary considering that in one of the birthing suites (the one next to where my appointment was) a woman was giving birth (she was litterally pushing the baby out) and it sounded like she was being tortured. All of that aside, the midwife made me feel super comfortable and confident. I asked all kinds of questions and she was able to alleviate my fears.

After my consultation I officially decided to transfer and here is why:
  1. I love my OB at the Woman and Children’s Pavilion which is where I was going, but the doctor who delivers is whoever is on call. Since there are many OB’s there, the chance I would actually get my doctor is slim.
  2. I thought to myself: why do I need my birth wishes written on paper? I have little confidence that whoever reads it at the hospital will remember what I want. If I go to a birthing center, I don’t even need a plan because what I am looking for is their philosophy.
  3. I felt like I was treated like an actual person/future mom at my consultation today. The whole appointment lasted over a half hour and it was less medical and more conversation. They said most of the appointments would be that way. My OB checkups lasted less than 10 minutes and I only saw the doctor for approximately 3 minutes…sometimes I felt like I was being herded.
  4. From what I hear, labor and birth is painful. I think that I will have a greater chance at achieving a natural birth if I don’t even have the option of pain killers and everyone in the room is supporting and helping me.
  5. I don’t have to (or get to) stay the night at the birthing center. 3 hours after birth max and you get to go home!
  6. The midwife is with you throughout the entire labor and birth process.
  7. A plus, but not my sole reason for going this route: an entire pregnancy (all prenatal, birth, and 6 weeks post-partum) costs $6,000 and is covered by insurance. I won’t have to pay all of that obviously since I am already 35 weeks…but this is NOTHING compared the hospital. I called last week to get a quote of how much we would have to pay for a hospital birth…well bare bones, no interventions, one night stay…$14,000. And that is just for the birth. Granted that is billed to insurance and we wouldn't have to pay the entire thing, but it is still is outrageous. Oh, and add another $6,000 for an epidural at the hospital.
  8. If anything goes wrong – the birthing center is less than a mile from the hospital.
My overall experience with hospital care during my pregnancy has been very stressful. As a healthy 25 year old having a baby there was absolutely no reason to go through all of the scares I did with the ultrasound abnormalities and glucose test results, etc. I feel like for the past 8 month, God has been trying to get me to go this route and I have been ignoring all of the promptings. I really felt good when I was at the birthing center today and I am so excited (and a little nervous) to go this route.  Mainly I can’t wait to meet my baby girl!

My Natural Birth Plan

Pretty much everything I have read says that once you get to the hospital your birth plan goes out the window because nothing goes as expected.  Well, as an honorary boyscout, I am always prepared, so in the rare chance that things go as planned I have created one.  However, given all of the birth visualization I have been doing, things should go smoothly. :)

Being a newb to giving birth, this took some time and a lot of searching the internet for example plans so I knew what I should be requesting.  As you may know, I am going to try to have a natural birth because I believe that is what is best for my baby girl.  I have a ton of support from my husband and we have been practicing some coping techniques (although as D-Day approaches, I am nervous that my practicing isn't enough or will not help).

So here it is...

Natasha Perhson's Birth Plan

We would like to have a "natural birth" - avoiding all medication if possible (including, but not limited to, Pitocin, IV, epidural, etc.). If an event should arise where medication would be needed, we would like discussion of alternatives and consequences, and some private time for discussion.

Except in the case of an emergency, we ask that we be given the opportunity to accept or refuse any procedure or medication.

Labor
  • My husband David and mother Kelly are to be present at all times during labor and birth.
  • Other family member and friends may be present during labor.
  • I would like the absolute minimum time necessary attached to monitoring.
  • I would prefer not to have an IV. If an IV is deemed necessary, please use a heparin lockso that I can move around and walk as needed.
  • Please no Pitocin or breaking of water unless deemed medically necessary.
  • If labor slows down, or is proving to be very long, I would prefer to wait and see what happens naturally. I would like to try natural methods to speed up labor and avoid any intervention.
  • I would like no pain relief during labor or delivery. Please do not offer it to me unless I ask about it.
  • I would like freedom to move and walk during labor.
  • I ask that lights be kept dim, noise be kept to a minimum, and the door be kept closed for privacy - no excess staff please.

Delivery
  • I would like to be in whatever position feels comfortable to me for birth including kneeling, standing, or squatting.
  • I would rather risk a tear than have an episiotomy. I would like to try perineal massage, support and warm compresses if needed.
  • I would like to avoid the use of forceps or any other tools to assist delivery at all costs. If delivery assistance is needed, please use suction instead of forceps.
  • I would like to receive my baby upon birth and place her directly on my chest unless medical intervention on baby is necessary. If I am unable to receive the baby, I would like to give my husband the opportunity.
  • I would like to wait for the cord to stop pulsating before clamped and cut.
  • I would like my husband to cut the cord.
  • I would like no Pitocin, uterine massage, or pulling of cord to help deliver the placenta.

Post-Partum
  • I would like the baby to stay with me at all times.
  • Upon delivery, I would like my mother to leave the room allowing my husband and me to have time alone with our new baby.
  • I would like all visitors and unnecessary staff be turned away until my husband and I have had time alone with our new baby (at least 1 hour).
  • Please delay all routine exams for 1-2 hours to allow for bonding time. • I would like any tests done to the baby while placed on my chest
  • I would like to breastfeed my baby: no formula, bottles, pacifiers, or water please.

If Cesarean Is Required
  • In the event of a c-section, I would like my husband to be present at all times.
  • Please use double-layer sutures when repairing my uterus. If I have a second child, I hope to attempt a VBAC and understand this is a requirement for many doctors.
  • I would like to have immediate contact with the baby after delivery.
  • Please let the baby remain with mother until stitched up and ready to be moved to recovery.
  • If my baby needs to go to the special care unit, I wish to stay with her.
  • Upon delivery, if baby needs special care, I would like my husband and myself to remain with her at all times.

34 Weeks AKA Home Stretch!

How far along: 34 weeks 4 days.
Gender:  Girl
Weight Gain:  Apparently I gained 5 pounds in 2 weeks (I have a slight feeling there is some discrepancy in the scales at the doctor though) total weight gain is +29 pounds.
Maternity Clothes:  Let's just say I can't wait to say goodbye to maternity clothes.  There are barely any cute ones that look good.  I went shopping with my mom last weekend and had another meltdown...this time in the dressing room because I felt like a cow and shopping is so frustrating.  I don't want to go shopping again until this little girl is out of me and I have lost my baby weight.
Stretch Marks:  Yes, I have a few more showing up on the other side of my belly now...they are really low though and I'm getting used to them.
Belly button in our out:  I was taking a bath this week and Dave noticed that my belly button was almost out so he pushed around the edges and it popped out!  It didn't permanently stay that way, but I have officially seen the bottom!
Sleep:  I set a new record of 6 bathroom trips in one night.  What do you think?
Best moment of the week:  My prenatal visit.  Yes, the weigh in sucked, but I am so over gaining weight I don't care anymore...I will just have to lose it afterwards which I am okay with and ready for.  The doc said she is in the perfect birthing position (hopefully she won't move), she is the perfect size (if she makes it to 40 weeks she won't be more than 7.5 pound), she is beginning to drop (and is right on my bladder which explains all of the extra trips to the bathroom), and her heart beat is exactly where it should be.  Looks like we have an over achiever on our hands!
Miss Anything:  My energy.  Going to work, going to school (I am taking a photography class 2 nights a week at the community college) and making dinner all in one day is just too much for me to handle right now.
Movement: Oh yes.  She pushes on my lungs now making it hard to breathe.  I just like to think she is packing up camp to make her appearance soon because she doesn't like the cramped quarters anymore.

I have also been feeling a pinching sensation which I am pretty sure is either my cervix starting to dialate or her head is pressing down.
Cravings: Well I ate too many hot dogs last week so not those anymore (I made us have them 3 nights in a row for dinner).   Now I am craving watermelon and I would love a chicken pot pie for dinner.
Symptoms:  Pregnancy brain.  Let's just say that I messed up majorly on my chalkboard this week...first writing words in the wrong order (I originally wrote Down Head...) and then almost taking the picture with the board saying 33 weeks.  I am seriously losing it.

Also, I am becoming more and more immobile by the day.  Dave loves that I am able to laugh at myself though - I have gotten to the stage where I can barely reach my feet and I sounded like Santa Claus running a marathon after pulling a sock off the other day.  My wonderful husband has agreed to help me with any feet related tasks for the duration of my pregnancy, although I have already learned he has a lot of trouble with non-standard shoes:  I wore these sandals to church yesterday and it took him like 5 minutes per shoe to put them on. I then proceeded to tell him while he was being so kind and helping me that it is going to be much harder dressing the baby so it is good he is getting practice.

Another thing I laugh at myself about is the fact that the most comfortable position for me to sit in is the man position - legs wide open.  Thankfully someone invented the maxi dress so I didn't so I didn't feel too bad for sitting like that at church.  What can I say?  The stretching feels good and pregnancy gives me a free pass to having zero etiquette.
Looking forward to:  Baby shower on Sunday!

33 Week Bumpdate

Pregnancy Chalkboard: 33 Weeks Preganat

How far along:  33 weeks and 2 days.
Gender:  Sweet baby girl.
Weight Gain:  24 pounds.
Maternity Clothes:  You bet.  I don't have that many so I feel like I wear the same thing over and over and over again.  I would say about half of my shirts have stains on them by now.  Thinking I can make it to the end though without buying much more.
Stretch Marks:  Yes, I have more than just the one now, but it is weird because I have just a small patch of them in one spot on my lower right belly...I think baby girl is trying to claw her way out.
Belly button in our out:  Still an inny, but Dave says when I lay down you can see the bottom.
Sleep:  Waking up multiple times a night to go to the bathroom or put more support under my big belly.  Oh and it is like an Olympic event for me when I roll over...it takes me some time and a lot if energy...
Best moment of the week:  My nesting day (also the worst because of the meltdown that happened prior).  I felt so accomplished.
Miss Anything:  Being able to walk more than five minutes without feeling like I just ran a marathon.
Movement:  Me? Not much anymore.  Baby?  Well she has mastered the art of doing handstands on my hip bones.  She also loves the game "let's see how hard I can head butt momma's pelvic bone."
Cravings:  Hot dogs with the works, blue slushies, and garlic parm chicken wings.
Queasy or sick:  Neither, but some of my other symptoms include shortness of breath and immobility.
Looking forward to:  Spending Easter with my family and finally winning the egg cracking competition.  This is my year...I feel it!

My Week 32 Meltdown

With the exception of me crying every time I watch a sweet YouTube video about babies/birth/moms/families/puppies/dancing penguins, I think I have kept my emotions pretty much in check during my whole pregnancy.  This was until last Tuesday when I think it was my $884.00 ultrasound bill that came in the mail and is due in two weeks that pushed me into a full on meltdown.

Out of nowhere, I was sitting at my desk at work when the water works started and I couldn’t stop them.  I went to the bathroom and continued to cry and weep until I felt physically sick.  Part of me did not know why this was happening or what I was crying about, but then my brain told me that I was having a panic attack.  All of my fears kind of came crashing into my head at once and the only way I could deal with it was crying.  What if my baby doesn’t like me?  What if there is something wrong with her when she is born?  What if we get in a car accident on the way home from the hospital?  What if she stops breathing in her sleep?  What if she comes too early and her room isn’t ready? What if something catastrophic happens to me or David and we can’t afford our lives and lose our house?  And so on. I was legitimately panicking to the point where I left work because I could not handle myself.

When I got home, I went into full on nesting mode.  I cleaned the ENTIRE house, I organized all of our paper work, I washed all of the baby’s clothes and organized them by size and then by color, I unpacked more of mine and David’s things, I finished up my work from home, I washed and folded our dirty clothes, towels, and bedding, I worked on a nursery project – decided I didn't like the end product and redid the entire nursery project (more to come on that later), I even made a surprisingly delicious dinner.  By the time 10:30pm rolled around the only thing that kept me from continuing organizing and cleaning was my back pain and knowing I had to get up in the morning for work.  It was an interesting day to say the least.

Luckily I was able to distract myself from my fears and my nesting made me feel like I was being productive in preparing for our baby.  I am hoping I can get by the next couple of weeks without another meltdown like that but who knows…on the bright side, another burst of energy wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

31 Weeks

Well really 32 weeks now so just a little late.  I figured it has been a while since I have actually talked about how I am feeling.  So here it goes...

Every day I get more and more uncomfortable.  It is hard to sleep, it is hard to breathe, it is hard to roll over, and if I stand for too long my back really starts to hurt.  Sometime baby girl positions herself so my uterus feels like it is going to rip open!  Almost as much as I can't wait to hold her in my arms, I can't wait until I am not pregnant anymore.

All this aside, I still savor every kick and movement because I know I will miss that.  I could watch her hiccups forever too!  She is so cute.  Not to mention, I would take being uncomfortable (and I know it is going to get worse) over morning sickness any day.

Baby Shower

Pregnancy Chalkboard: 30 Weeks Pregnant

Today, Sarah and David's mom threw a baby shower for me.  It was nice to have one up north with my friends who live up here.  I can't believe how many cute clothes baby girl got!  She is going to be so well dressed.  I had a really great time (except for the fact that I kept having hot flashes and was sweating practically the whole time!)  I also got 3 diaper cakes!  They are all so adorable and we will definitely be using all of the diapers if I can ever bring myself to disassemble the cuteness!

I'm getting so excited for baby's arrival.  10 more weeks!

29 Weeks

Pregnancy Chalkboard: 29 Weeks Pregnant

How far along: 30 weeks and 1 day (still behind on my chalkboards but I will be catching up this week for sure!)
Gender:  Girl
Weight gain:  +22 pounds.
Maternity clothes:  Definitely.  I just got some dresses from Old Navy which are super cozy!  Dave got a kick of watching me try on clothes though...he thinks it is funny how tired I get after taking off a pair of pants and putting on another pair.
Stretch marks:  One tiny one to the right of my belly button.  I have upped my oiling/lotioning to 2-3 times a day now.
Belly button in our out:  In.  It has a ways to go before it pops out.
Sleep:  I have only had one night where I struggled to roll over - other than that it has been okay except for my frequent trips to the bathroom.
Best moment of the week:  Finally getting unpacked and cleaning the whole house.  I feel like I can relax a little bit now.
Miss anything:  Not constantly worrying about falling up or down the stairs.  My center of gravity has definitely changed and I feel more clumsy than ever.
Movement:  She moves all the time.  When I try to push back though, she just moves to another spot.
Cravings:  Cake.  Seriously considering going to a bakery and sampling wedding cakes since I never got to do that for our wedding.  Is it too late to cash in my free cake tasting?
Queasy or sick:  Just really tired and not wanting to move.  I also woke up with a pounding headache this morning.
Looking forward to:  My first baby shower this weekend!  Dave's sister is in town with her kids and we are excited to spend time with them.

Still Not Done Unpacking

I know our boxes are not going to unpack themselves, but it seems like everytime I make some kind of progress something new gets added to put away (more boxes of David's or piles of clean laundry).  I just need to get it done!  Maybe once we finish refurbishing our dressers I will be more inclined to get unpacked because I will actually have a place to put things instead of organized piles on the floor.

Still not internet which means my posts will likely be short and not too exciting until we have it at the house.  Maybe on my next post I will show you what chaos our bedroom looks like.  Ha!

Until next time...

Officialy Halfway To 50!

Bring on the Cinnabon’s!!!  Just got a call from the doctor saying that I passed my glucose test.  No GD!

I feel like I am so behind in my blogging and my chalkboards.  I guess that is what moving will do to you.  My free time recently has been spent either unpacking, organizing, or making shopping trips for things we realize we need (example:  a garbage can).  We also have been checking Craigslist daily for furniture that we will be able to refurbish.  We found the cutest dresser for baby girl’s room and two more dressers for our room.  Our plan is to refurb them by the end of the month which means lots of sanding and painting in our future... good thing we love do it yourself projects (I am going to try and do a post about our AMAZING dining room table we made soon…it is gorgeous!).   We have so much to do around the house to get ready for the baby, these next couple of months are going to fly by.  If I am not sleeping, I am sure I will be working on some kind of project.  Good thing my motherly nesting instincts are kicking into gear.

Last week I celebrated my 25th birthday.  It was such a good birthday.  My day started off by my baby girl throwing a dance party in my uterus from approximately midnight to 6am.  I did not sleep at all, but other than my extreme exhaustion my day went pretty well.  I was staying in Seattle for a conference and Dave came and stayed with me while I was there.  My mom and Mark took us to Chandlers for dinner.  They have the best seafood and banana cream pie!  I enjoyed half a crab along with a few other random bites of seafood …I probably should have not indulged in the raw oysters, but I couldn’t help myself and I only ate a few.  My mom and Mark also got me a sewing machine!  Yay, my obvious hinting worked.  I have a lot of sewing projects coming up so that will be helpful.  My boss also bought be flowers from Pike Place Market!  They are so pretty!

Pregnancy Chalkboard: 27 Weeks Pregnant

I know this is short, but I am writing during my lunch break.  Dave and I are getting internet at the house this week so hopefully I will be able to write more soon.

Positive GD Screening AND Anemia?!???!!!!?

At least I now know from past experiences that whenever I get a voice mail from the doctors office after some kind of test - it is not good news.  Yesterday, the nurse called to tell me that my glucose levels from my gestational diabetes test were slightly elevated (I was 135 and the cutoff is 130...high levels are 170-180).  So if you have never taken the glucose test, let me tell you about it...it sucks!  I don't mind getting my blood drawn but they make you drink this nasty nasty sugar drink in 5 minutes that makes you want to throw up.  I was told that fruit punch was the best flavor so that was the one I got.  Then you sit in the waiting room for an hour and after your time is up they draw your blood.  The nurse said that since I "failed" this test, I need to take the 3 hour diagnostic test.  Same principle with a few variations - get your blood drawn after a ten hour fast, drink the nasty sugar drink (which for this test is bigger and has twice the amount of sugar - I tried the orange flavor this time which was equally as nasty, but I would say I favor it to fruit punch), and then get more blood drawn at one, two, and three hours.  As a matter of fact I am sitting in the waiting room while I write this waiting for my last blood draw.

The nurse also told me that I was anemic which is super common in your third trimester of pregnancy because your body is producing 50% more blood.  She said I need to start taking iron supplements twice daily.

At least after all of this news I was not as freaked out as last time - although I was still worried that my baby girl might be in jeopardy - I took the news with a grain of salt since my feelings on doctors and diagnostic testing has drastically changed during my pregnancy.

Luckily, I had an appointment later in the day so I could compile all of my thoughts and figure out what I wanted to ask the doctor .  Let me just say, I LOVE my OB!  She makes me feel so comfortable and normal and she always puts me at ease when something is "wrong".  She first started by telling me that my glucose levels were not much higher than the cutoff, and that result could be from the food I ate previously in the day (they say you don't have to fast for the one hour test, but knowing what I know now, I am fasting when I take the test with my next pregnancy to prevent me from having to drink the glucose drink more than I have to.)  She also said that just to be sure, she wanted me to take the three hour test because in a small percentage of cases, women test positive, but more likely than not, I probably don't have GD.  If I did, I would have to meet with a dietitian and start testing my blood sugar four times a day.  She said as long as it is monitored, myself and baby would be fine.  She also reassured me and told me that I did not do anything to cause this (if I do have it), and that it would go away after giving birth.

As far as the anemia goes, she didn't even mention it.  I told her what the nurse said, and she told me that they just recently changed the guidelines at the clinic to match the national guidelines (and the nurses haven't been told this yet). I was right on the old cutoff number.  She said I am not anemic and I don't need to take the iron supplement unless I feel like it...maybe twice a week if I remember or if I want to.

So like I said, I am waiting in lab for my third blood draw.  I had to get up super early to get here since they are only open in the morning (and I had to go to the Mill Creek office because Everett did not have any available appointments - this building is much nicer though and smells better) and I have to stay here for so long.  I am glad they have WiFi AND that I remembered to bring a computer.  Dave and I have got a lot done as far as using up some Amazon gift cards we got for our wedding and finding some awesome furniture to refurbish on Craigslist.  We are going to use the rest of the day to run errands, return some things, and do some more shopping for our house

Well, I have to go!  Last blood draw...wish me luck - I will update with results on Monday!
